Traditional Design
While it’s rare to confuse traditional design with modern or contemporary design, it’s important to briefly hit on traditional design since contemporary design often blends traditional with modern.
Traditional design often uses heavy, bold furnishings with rich earth tone colors such as brown, gold, or dark green. Traditional design is very ornate also, for example: claw foot chairs and embellished four post beds. Traditional pieces draw their inspiration from 18th and 19th century Europe. If you can picture it in a castle, it is likely traditional.
So there you have it: a brief introduction to contemporary, modern, and traditional design. Understanding the differences between these design styles, especially modern and contemporary, is important when describing your vision to interior designers, furniture sales people, and other members of the design community. The headboard profile of the luxury estate bed plays off the shape of the curved case fronts with opposing curved shapes adding drama and interest. The outward curve of the carved scroll heads as they ascend toward the central carved shell gives a sense of movement to the headboard. Collection Description

The high traditional design of Old World is inspired primarily by classic European styles of antiquity. Clearly influenced by the later Renaissance period, which featured enrichment of ornament and outline, Old World reflects the elaborate details of the French and English translation of this significant architectural movement. Roman design standards like columns and pilasters were applied to furniture as well as a full complement of bases, cornices and pediments. The veneer is created by artistic use of cathedral cherry and exotic avodire veneers set off by fine herringbone inlay. Sculptural acanthus leaf carvings adorn the canted pilasters of the case pieces, and the case fronts are highlighted by a carved frame molding in a rhythmic Lamb's tongue motif.
